What is the difference between an internship and Co-op?

 

INTERNSHIPS

CO-OP

Time frame

Usually lasts for 12 weeks, can occur anytime after 1 year of study

Must to 3 placements interspersed with academic learning

Financial costs and benefits

Tuition for one course, compensated for the work term

Program fees and usually compensated for the work terms

Course credit

Receive elective credit toward degree

No course credit, receive Co-operative Education designation on parchment

Workload

Written assignments and presentation at the end of the internship

Written assignments

Who can participate

Any student who has completed their first year of study with a 2.8 G.P.A. or higher

Must be enrolled in the CO-OP stream (not available at the Faculty of Agriculture).
