Statement from Officers of Senate
Re: Code of Student Conduct
From: Kevin Hewitt, Chair of Senate; Jeff Hoyle, Vice-Chair of Senate; Tanya Packer, Vice-Chair of Senate
Date: Oct. 30, 2017
In the recent communication of October 25, 2017, the Vice-Provost Student Affairs expressed concerns that the Code of Student Conduct, as written, may not place core institutional values of freedom of speech and the non-tolerance of demeaning and intimidating behavior in sufficient and proper context. The Senate officers are committed to taking action by bringing this issue before Senate, the body responsible for the Code. Senate will encourage ongoing constructive dialogue around these issues, and will seek creative ways to engage the University community in concert with its principles and values.
