Update on DFA negotiations: Conciliation dates scheduled for January 4 and 5

Posted by Human Resources on December 19, 2022 in Human Resources

Negotiations continue with the Dalhousie Faculty Association (DFA), with conciliation dates scheduled for January 4 and 5.

The DFA has conducted a strike vote and announced that the vote was successful. We want to remind everyone that a strike vote does not mean faculty are going to strike. A strike vote is a normal part of the collective bargaining process, a step commonly taken by unions ahead of conciliation to show a willingness to strike only if the negotiations are not successful. No strike can take place while bargaining continues, and the university and the DFA are still in bargaining. There are still several steps in the process before a strike could occur.

The strike vote does mean faculty are serious about the issues being discussed in these negotiations, and the university takes these issues seriously as well. That’s why the team representing the Board is committed to working with the DFA to find mutually agreeable resolutions at the bargaining table.

At this time, we remain very optimistic that the parties will be able to come to a mutually beneficial agreement. We will provide further updates following conciliation in January.
