This October, for the duration of Mi'kmaq History Month, Dalhousie will be flying the orange-coloured Every Child Matters flag on Studley Campus in Halifax and on the Agricultural Campus in Truro.

The flag was initially raised this week in honour of the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, which took place yesterday (Sept. 30) in tadem with Orange Shirt Day.

The Every Child Matters message and orange colour represent the children who were forcibly taken from their families and sent to residential schools across Canada, including here in Mi'kma'ki where Dalhousie is located.

The new flag joins the Mi'kmaq Grand Council flag (seen second-from-right in above image), which was permanently installed at Dal in 2016. Learn more.

In the first image below, the Every Child Matters flag is shown on the left flying next to the Mi'kmaq Grand Council flag on the Ag Campus — both lowered out of respect to the children lost to residential schools. Other images of the flag are from Studley Campus.
