POSITION: Part-Time Academic- THEA 2820X/Y.06 Dance and Movement II (September 1, 2018 – April 30, 2019)

DEPARTMENT/LOCATION: Fountain School of Performing Arts

PAY RATE:  As per CUPE Collective Agreement          

WORK ASSIGNMENT: This Part-Time Academic will be fully responsible for the teaching and grading of THEA 2820X/Y.06 Dance and Movement II, from September 1, 2018 to April 30, 2019. This course is a requirement for students enrolled in the Honors BA in Theatre, (Acting Program) and is a practical exploration into dance and movement techniques, incorporating the awareness and use of space, rhythm, and correct body alignment.  Emphasis is on the development of personal expression through the mediums of dance and movement and on the development of knowledge and practical skill. Students are expected to develop an awareness of dance/movement terminology and vocabulary. The instructor is required to provide a Course Outline (including Method of Assessment), prepare and grade all assignments, and to calculate and then submit final marks. This position reports to the Director of the Fountain School of Performing Arts.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:      The qualifications required for this position include:

(1) substantial experience and specialization in a form of movement considered valuable for actors (especially movement for the stage);

(2) ability to instruct students with diverse dance-training backgrounds and broad levels of musicality, dexterity, and coordination;

(3) teaching experience at the post-secondary level; and

(4) evidence of strong teaching effectiveness. 

Professional performance experience and experience in Luigi-style jazz-dance technique would be considered assets.
