Dalhousie Law continued its climb into the top 100 in the 2026 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by Subject.
Dal placed 85th globally for the discipline in the world’s most-watched global subject ranking out this week, up four spots year over year and 15 spots from 2024 when it placed at 100. It placed 6th in Canada.
The THE World University Rankings by Subject assess institutional performance across 11 broad disciplines and 31 individual subjects. The methodology is grounded in five pillars: Teaching, Research Environment, Research Quality, International Outlook, and Industry.
Each subject area applies tailored weightings, thresholds, and recalibrations to reflect disciplinary differences and characteristics.
Disciplines in focus
Dal’s overall performance remained consistent compared to last year with most subjects maintaining their band placement.
Psychology: 176-200 (12th in Canada)
Medical and Health (formerly Clinical and Health): 201-250 (11th in Canada)
Business & Economics: 301-400 (11th in Canada)
Physical Sciences: 301-400 (11th in Canada)
Social Sciences: 301-400 (11th in Canada)
Arts & Humanities: 401-500 (17th in Canada)
Computer Science: 401-500 (25th in Canada)
Engineering: 401-500 (23rd in Canada)
Only one discipline slipped year over year: Life Sciences fell from the 251-300 band to the 301-400 band. It came in 13th nationally.
