Marine Gene Probe Lab

Located on the sixth floor of the Biology Department, the MGPL serves two main purposes.
The first is to provide excellent laboratory facilities and expertise to enable the application of DNA techniques to research in ecology, conservation biology and fisheries, aquaculture and forestry management.

The second purpose is to train students and scientists in the use of molecular tools and techniques.

Each year, numerous students, post-docs and Biology Department staff conduct research in the MGPL on a wide range of marine, aquatic and terrestrial species.

Two courses, Molecular Genetic Techniques in Ecology (BIOL 4034) and Molecular Techniques (BIOL 5034) are also offered using MGPL facilities.
