Congratulations to Shauna Hachey, associate professor of dental hygiene in our Faculty of Dentistry! She received the Special Olympics Nova Scotia Golisano Health Leader Award for 2026 at a ceremony on February 18.

Shauna was recognized for leading an initiative to provide sport-specific intraoral mouthguards to Special Olympics teams, for her work to develop resources for athletes without teeth, and for research and advocacy.

The Faculty of Dentistry is proud of Shauna's dedication to the Special Olympics Special Smiles program.
