Part of Dalhousie's Thrive mental wellness initiative (dal.ca/thrive)

20% of Canadians will personally experience a mental illness in their lifetime.

That means that you either have encountered, or will encounter, someone with mental health challenges.  Do you feel prepared?

You may see behaviours that are out of character for the individual, if you know him/her, or you may see behaviours that are unpredictable or that don't seem to fit the circumstance.  Knowing what to do, and where and how to seek help, improves the situation for all involved.

"Mental Health First Aid" is a 2-day program designed to teach the basics of mental health conditions so you can recognize them, and to provide strategies for responding appropriately in a given situation. This program is ideal for employees that are in service areas, dealing with students, faculty, staff, and/or visitors on campus.

Our Instructor:  Keith Brumwell is the former Co-Manager of the Canadian Mental Health Association Halifax-Dartmouth Branch and a retired RCMP Officer of 32 years.  For over three years, he operated a social club for individuals living with mental illness, is a former chapter president of a Schizophrenia Society chapter, and Vice-President of the Schizophrenia Society of NS, and was awarded the Queens Jubilee medal for his community volunteer work.
