Experience the new face of Agriculture Faculty of Agriculture launches new view book

Posted by Stephanie Rogers on October 28, 2014 in News

The leading-edge teaching and research undertaken at Dalhousie’s Faculty of Agriculture continues to redefine our relationships with our landscapes, our oceans, our food sources and even our healthcare systems.  And it is this new face of agriculture that is reflected in the Faculty of Agriculture’s new view book, launched this fall.

Most high school students thinking about coming to Dal or to the Faculty of Agriculture will at some point get their hands on a viewbook. The publication is a key tool for Dalhousie’s team of recruiters as they travel to high schools and university fairs across Canada and, increasingly, around the world.

While the Faculty of Agriculture is represented in all recruitment publications and activities, including domestic and international viewbooks, recruiters also travel with a companion piece that focuses exclusively on agriculture.

“In this highly competitive agriculture market our new viewbook will help to establish us more firmly as the faculty of choice for prospective students, explains Dean David Gray.  “It reflects a progressive kind of agricultural education that is relevant and purpose-driven.”

The refreshed viewbook aligns perfectly with the Faculty of Agriculture’s new five-year strategic plan and its desire to present a more modern view of agriculture.  The culture of a distinct small campus, marked by progressive research and academic programs, is showcased, thus helping to build awareness, enhance reputation and capture the interest of readers.

We believe these viewbooks will stand out in the recruitment market. They present Dalhousie and the Faculty of Agriculture in a way that is compelling, different from other universities and true to our brand,” said Adam Robertson, associate registrar and director of recruitment.  “We’re excited to be bringing these materials to markets near and far.”

The Faculty of Agriculture view book is part of a larger university campaign, dubbed Citizen of Dal, that was developed based on insights from reputation research undertaken by Communications and Marketing, along with consultations with Dal’s recruitment team, and prospective and current students. It also involved partnerships — not only between Dal’s recruitment team (part of the Registrar’s Office) and Communications and Marketing, but with NATIONAL Public Relations, who led the redesign of the publications.

Dalhousie’s recruitment team will be visiting over 800 high schools across Canada and beyond this fall.

“The viewbook is often the first piece a prospective student, parent or guidance counselor will pick up when researching the university,” explains Robertson.
