Pillar 5: A foundation for inclusion and distinction

Continuous Process Improvement

As we continue to deliver on our commitment to providing a place where our diverse community can explore, learn, discover, innovate, and engage to their full potential, we need to continually improve and evolve our physical, governance, financial, administrative, and digital infrastructure.

Thoughtful and comprehensive reviews have begun, and we are gathering information that will transform the ways we achieve our core teaching, research, service, and student experience goals

Last fall, we completed an external review of our governance, which reinforced our commitment to the bicameral structure (led by both the Board of Governors and the Senate). A working group, with members from both the Board of Governors and Senate, are developing an implementation roadmap to strengthen collaboration and partnerships.

A holistic review of our cyclical Academic Quality Assurance (AQA) policies, practices, and framework is underway with a focus on inclusive excellence. This will help us to better support the tremendous work done by our faculties around program reviews.

Enhancing opportunities

In some areas, we're already doing things differently. Through thoughtful, decisive, and nimble action we're maximizing resources and enhancing opportunities.

Students can now complete the first year of their science or computer science program on our Truro campus.

Data collection has begun on the Uniforum project, a collaborative global administrative benchmarking program that was built specifically to enhance university processes.

Plans are coming together to implement the recommendations of the Accessibility Plan.

Work has begun on a new budget model that will align funding with our core purposes of teaching, research, service, and student experience, as well as our equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility values.

Many operational sustainability policies and plans were updated in 2022. These targets and measures will guide our action and provide public accountability.

And of course, our Digital Governance Framework continues to put data at our fingertips, supplying insights that will help enhance the experience we all have at Dalhousie.

Our infrastructure is our foundation for inclusion and distinction. We are more effective, innovative, and responsive when our systems are well integrated and supported. The collective impact of all these initiatives will prepare us for the long-term needs of the university and strengthen our ability to offer exceptional and inclusive experiences.
