Security Alert: Update Apple iOS and MacOS devices to prevent current attacks

Posted by Information Technology Services (ITS) on January 24, 2024 in General Announcements

On January 22, Apple released security updates to address this year's first currently exploited or zero-day vulnerability for iOS, MacOS, and tvOS devices. It is a vulnerability in WebKit that could allow attackers to execute malicious code on targeted devices that open a malicious web page. Apple has reported that they are aware the issue is being actively exploited.

Apple has addressed the issue in iOS 16.7.5 and later, iPadOS 16.7.5 and later, macOS Monterey 12.7.3 and higher, as well as on tvOS 17.3 and later.

Apple also released patches for older devices, to remedy WebKit vulnerabilities that were being exploited last November. They had previously patched newer Apple devices against these vulnerabilities, but older iOS and iPadOS devices (such as the iPhone 6S and 7) were still missing protection against these exploits. Those updates are now available for your older Apple devices.

Please ensure that all of your Apple devices are up-to-date to prevent exploitation of these current vulnerabilities.
