Looking to be a mentor? SuperNOVA’s Girls Count program is back for another year!

Posted by SuperNOVA at Dalhousie University on September 9, 2022 in General Announcements

Supported by the Canadian Women’s Foundation Girls’ Fund, SuperNOVA’s Girls Count program combines weekly educational programming with continued mentorship to target gender disparity within mathematics through an exploration of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields for girls in Grades 6-8.

The Girls Count program will empower girls and women to be passionate, informed, and confident in their mathematics abilities by connecting participants with positive female mentors from Mathematics-related fields through weekly engagements.

We are looking for mentors to participate in our 2022-2023 cohort that will start on Wednesday, September 28, 2022; the program runs weekly in-person sessions that will take place on Dalhousie’s Sexton campus every Wednesday evening from 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM.

Girls Count Mentor roles will be to mentor and help oversee a group of up to twenty female participants (aged 11-13 years) in the Group Mentoring portion of the Girls Count program. There will be two different mentor roles:

  1. Guest Mentors: Someone that will come to give a guest lecture every month.
  2. Continuous Mentor: Someone that is committed to attending every Girls Count session and providing their input in the weekly meetings

If you are interested or have any questions, please get in touch with Pierina Leon, Girls Count Coordinator, at pleon@superstaff.ca.
