With exams now underway and COVID cases rising, students may be experiencing even more stress and anxiety than usual. Student Health & Wellness relies on the entire campus community to support our students’ health and wellbeing.
Faculty and staff can refer a student to the Student Health & Wellness team through the online Student Referral Form on SharePoint.
Referrals in Halifax are managed by Dalhousie’s Case Manager and Social Worker, Hazel, who will assess, triage, and assist the student to meet their needs. Referrals in Truro are managed by nurses in Health Services who will provide a holistic assessment (physical, mental, social & spiritual) and provide options for care for the student of concern.
Before referring a student to our team, please ensure the student is aware that you will be referring them and has provided their consent.
Faculty and staff can now take the Mental Health 101 workshop through online video modules available on the Dalhousie Student Health & Wellness SharePoint site. The 13 modules cover topics such as the role of stress on a student, how to recognize a student in distress and how to start conversations with students about their mental health.
You can also access the Blue Folder for both Halifax and Truro campus through the SharePoint site. The Blue Folder is your guide to recognizing and responding to a student in distress.
Students, faculty and staff can learn more and about access Dalhousie’s many mental health resources at dal.ca/mentalhealth.
