In order to facilitate cleanup from a weekend fire, the Biology Wing of the LSC (all floors) will remain closed today, Monday November 15, 2021.

LSC common space, Oceanography, Psychology, and the Wallace McCain Learning Commons are all open on regular schedule.

The fire started in a metal cabinet used for drying samples, located on the fourth floor. No one was injured as a result of the incident. Halifax Fire responded and extinguished the fire.

The damage from the fire is not extensive. However an evaluation of the building was conducted at 6:30 a.m today and showed that the presence and odor of smoke was still too strong on all levels of the Biology wing to permit occupancy. 

Dalhousie staff and third-party contractors will be working today on the cleanup required to improve air quality. We’ll notify our community on when the space will be open.
