Facilities Management maintenance changes

Posted by Facilities Management on July 7, 2020 in Facilities Management

The COVID-19 pandemic, and ensuing operational impacts, have resulted in Facilities Management maintenance staff working a reduced work schedule (currently 50%) for an indefinite period of time. With the reduced staffing levels, it is impossible to maintain effective client service and planned maintenance activities with the previous zone maintenance structure. Consequently, organizational changes are required. Therefore, effective immediately, the previous zone maintenance structure will be replaced by an improved, client focused, team structure, consisting of:

Client Service Team – Supervised by Craig Shelton & Trevor Morine. Craig & Trevor will lead a large team of Trades staff to provide effective daily Client Service response and repairs for the Sexton, Studley and Carleton campuses. This team will work from the previous Zone 3 & 4 office.

Planned Maintenance Team – Supervised by Perry Sabean. Perry will lead a small team of Trades staff that will be responsible for all Planned Maintenance activities for the Sexton, Studley and Carleton campuses. This team will work from the previous Zone 2 office in the Dental Building.

Utilities Team – Supervised by Kyle MacKenzie, this team will continue to provide campus-wide HVAC & Access Control maintenance and repair services.

Zone 5 Maintenance Team – Supervised by Jason Penney, this team remains unchanged.

Craig Evans (former Zone 4 Supervisor) will be providing support to the maintenance teams by leading a number of maintenance planning initiatives with a focus on process improvement and cost reductions.

What this means for our clients is:

  • You will continue to request FM services through FAMIS Self Service.
  • FM Client Reception (FMClientReception@Dal.Ca) are available to answer your questions and should always be your first resource for any service related issues.
  • FM will have a larger pool of resources on a daily basis to service your needs.
  • If you have any concerns about service or repair issues that Client Service cannot answer, they will connect you with Craig or Trevor.
  • As more staff, faculty and students return to campus, FM will increase our staffing levels accordingly.
  • You will see some new faces responding to service calls who will be still getting familiar with some of the buildings, so please be patient.

We anticipate this new structure will remain beyond the pandemic and will be monitored and adjusted accordingly over the next several months.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Gordon Rines (Gordon.Rines@dal.ca) or Darrell Boutilier (Darrell.Boutilier@dal.ca) to discuss.
