The School of Occupational Therapy in Dalhousie’s Faculty of Health invites applications from qualified candidates for a full time 2 year limited term faculty position at the Instructor rank.

Applicants must hold an entry-to-practice qualification in occupational therapy. An additional Master’s degree is essential. A PhD or Ed.D is preferred. Eligibility for licensure to practice occupational therapy in Nova Scotia is essential. The instructor requires a minimum of two years of relevant professional practice teaching experience that can include experience as a tutor, teaching assistant and supervision of occupational therapy fieldwork students. It is essential that the instructor have demonstrated ability to teach in the core enabling competencies in the entry–to-practice curriculum of occupational therapy practice including knowledge, skills, and professional behaviours of enabling across the life span. The following abilities are required: demonstrated ability to develop and teach course in disability management and / or the study of occupation and/ or online Master of Science (Post Profession/Occupational Science); demonstrated ability to teach in interprofessional health education, online teaching technology and simulation; demonstrated exceptional time management and course preparation skills, highly developed level of organizational and prioritization skills, effective oral and written communication skills, leadership skills and the ability to take initiative, be flexible and work independently. It is highly desirable for the successful candidate to establish/maintain involvement in scholarly/professional activities; and be dedicated to excellence and innovation in curriculum delivery. The ideal candidate will be passionate about teaching.

The successful candidate will be required to teach undergraduate/graduate students as well as mentor graduate students. The teaching assignments will include teaching 3-4 courses across the entire calendar year. They will also contribute to teaching and/or coordination and/or evaluation of student performance in up to 4-5 courses. They would contribute to the fieldwork team courses and supervision, as well as assist with student assessment, particularly during presentations, simulated client exams and practical demonstrations. They may be responsible for development of cases and implementation of teaching/learning resources for use in the simulation as well as participation in the Electronic Assessment Library and other events. The Instructor would participate in interprofessional health education activities, teaching, learning and evaluation in the Electronic Assessment Library and other events. The candidate is expected to become an active and engaged member of the School, Faculty and University. Activities at local, national and international levels are expected to promote continuous improvement in teaching and learning at Dalhousie. There is no expectation of a research workload associated with this position.
