POSITION:  Laboratory Demonstrator/Instructor (multiple positions available)

DEPARTMENT/LOCATION:  School of Physiotherapy

SALARY / PAY RATE:  In accordance with CUPE agreement

WORK ASSIGNMENT:  PHYT 5460 Advanced Exercise Physiology [January 6– March 2020, inclusive of Exam Period]

DESCRIPTION OF WORK: The laboratory instructor will assist the course professor by teaching in the laboratory component of this module for Year I MScPT students. The laboratory instructor will act as an examiner in the final practical exam at the end of the semester. Laboratory instructors will also set-up for and clean-up after labs. Some additional hours may be required for preparation time and limited meeting time with the professor.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: Candidates must be licensed physiotherapists or kinesiologists with a strong background in exercise physiology and exercise testing. A Master's degree and teaching experience is preferred

WORK ASSIGNMENT:  PHYT 6108.12 – Integrated Practice (Module 8 of the MScPT program) (February 1, 2020 to May 31, 2020, inclusive of Exam Period)

DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Numerous instructors will be required to assist the module leader by teaching practical skills and techniques in the laboratory, supervising students during the Patient Partner program, and /or facilitating tutorial components of this 2nd year MScPT module.  The level of instructor involvement will vary.  For example, instructors may be involved in 1 or 2 labs per module or several labs per week.  This will depend on the instructor's level of skill, type of expertise required, and availability.  The instructor may also act as an examiner in the mid-term and final practical exams and evaluate the students' performance throughout the course and in these exams.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: Candidates must be licensed Physiotherapists.  A Master's degree and /or advanced continuing education courses preferred along with strong clinical expertise.

WORK ASSIGNMENT:  PHYT 5214 Cardiorespiratory Physiotherapy II [January 6– April 24, inclusive of Exam Period]

DESCRIPTION OF WORK:  This position involves working with students in their first year in the MScPT program. The laboratory instructor will assist the course professor by teaching physical assessment and treatment techniques related to care for people with cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases. The instructor will contribute to activities designed to develop students' clinical problem solving and documentation skills. They will receive outlines of the objectives and teaching activities in advance of each lab and be expected to come prepared to be a helpful mentor to students. A short consultation time will proceed the lab to ensure mutual understanding of lab activities between the course manager and all the lab instructors.  The laboratory instructor should be available to be an examiner in mid-term and final practical exams.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:  Candidates must be licensed Physiotherapists.  A Master's degree is preferred along with strong clinical expertise in the cardiorespiratory physiotherapy. Previous experience in both respiratory and cardiac practice areas is a preference.

WORK ASSIGNMENT:  PHYT 5215 Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy (January 06, 2020 to March 27, 2020, inclusive of Exam Period)

DESCRIPTION OF WORK: The laboratory demonstrator/instructor will assist the course professor by teaching lab material to Year I MSc PT students in practical/lab sessions. Lab handouts will be available electronically that cover the hands-on practical clinical skills of the various physical assessments as well as the various treatment approaches from acute care to discharge.

Numerous lab instructors will be required to cover the multiple lab and tutorial sessions. The level of lab instructor involvement would be varied. For example, it could be 1 or 2 labs per module or 1 to 2 lab sessions per week. This would depend on the instructor's level of skill, availability and the type of expertise required (inpatient orthopaedics, manual therapy skills). Laboratory instructors will also be asked to act as an examiner in mid-term and final practical exams (must be available all day Friday, March 20).

Further detail regarding the layout of the module, specific hours and content of the various laboratory sessions will be forwarded to interested individuals upon receipt of the application form.
