OCCU 6508.03 Chronic Conditions in Everyday Life
Fall term 2019
Department: School of Occupational Therapy
Pay rate: In accordance with CUPE agreement
Work Assignment: The sessional instructor will be responsible for the distance education delivery of OCCU 6508.03 Chronic Conditions in Everyday Life in the School’s Post-Professional program. The instructor would be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the class, including course preparation for distance delivery, lectures, test preparation and evaluation of students. In addition, the instructor should be available on-line for consultation with students.
This online course consists of an intensive, cross-disciplinary examination of the empirical literature related to chronic condition management. In this course, students will explore and interrogate a range of issues including: the scope of the problem, models of care, selected chronic conditions across the life continuum, technology, interprofessional collaboration, and self-management approaches. Students will also have the opportunity to apply occupational science theories and key constructs to contemporary chronic condition management issues.
Requirements of position: PhD or Masters degree. Previous teaching experience (especially with graduate students) preferred. Web-based distance education technology preferred. Experience in implementing and / or evaluating evidence for use in professional practice is an asset.

Work Assignment: The sessional instructor will be responsible for the distance education delivery of OCCU 6509.03 Aging and Continuing Care in the School’s Post-Professional program. The instructor would be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the class, including course preparation for distance delivery, lectures, test preparation and evaluation of students. In addition, the instructor should be available on-line for consultation with students.
This online course provides an intensive examination of selected, substantive issues of concern related to aging and continuing care. The course focuses on older adults, their inclusion and participation in occupations (that is, the things they want to do, need to do, and are expected to do), and the continuing care policies and services that support their occupational lives. Students will critically explore a range of issues, including, theoretical approaches to aging; demographics of aging; biological, psychological and social aspects of aging; continuing care policies and strategies related to participation, social inclusion, supportive housing and long-term care, transportation, pensions and financial issues, family caregiving, and, death and dying.
