Over the next year, the Office of Sustainability and Facilities Management will be working on a project to replace fluorescent tubes with LED (light emitting diodes) tubes across the Halifax campuses. Benefits of the project include reduction of over 2500 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually, longer-term cost avoidance, reduction of mercury in lamps through recycling and replacement of of existing Fluorescent lamps, and less ongoing maintenance. The light level and quality will be comparable to current lighting regimes. The impact to users is minimal as only the tube is changed not the lighting fixture.
