SuperNOVA launches series of free I.T.S. for Girls Who Code workshops

Posted by SuperNOVA on November 26, 2018 in General Announcements

Technology drives nearly every aspect of our lives in the modern day and our children know this well! Of students and parents surveyed in Canada on the significance of digital technology in student's future careers, 92 per cent believe it to be very or extremely important. Unfortunately even at school age, the types of students that show interest in coding and computer science varies based on gender. Over 50 per cent of boys surveyed were very or extremely interested in careers involving coding or programming, but only 27 per cent of girls expressed the same interest.

To encourage young women to pursure careers in computer science and garner interest in coding, SuperNOVA is hosting coding workshops for girls on Wednesday evenings, from 5:30-7 in January 2019. Girls will learn basic coding skills through a fun and engaging program with our qualified instructors. No experience necessary! This brand new program in partnership with Actua and CanCode is completely free of charge to participants.  Registration is open to all those who identify as girls in grades 4-9.

Program will take place at 6050 University Avenue, the Goldberg Computer Science building.

Drop off is between 5:15-5:30, pick up between 7:00-7:15 in front of the building.
