POSITION:  Part-time Academic

PAY RATE: Half-class stipend, according to C.U.P.E. agreement

WORK ASSIGNMENT

To teach one section of CRWR 3011.03 Creative Writing: Poetry II in the winter term of the 2018-19 academic year, currently scheduled for Mondays from 14:35-17:25.  Admission is by portfolio submission or the completion of ENGL3099/CRWR 3020 with a grade of B or better. The part-time academic will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the class, including lectures and evaluation. The part-time academic should also be available for two hours per week for consultation with students. The position reports to the Chair of the Department.

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants should be published creative writers, with at least one published book of poems.  Evidence of teaching effectiveness at the post-secondary level is required for this position.

All applications should include a curriculum vitae, two confidential letters of reference and evidence of teaching effectiveness. For each part-time academic the Chair will conduct an annual assessment of teaching performance, now required under the CUPE Collective Agreement. This assessment will be based on student ratings of instruction and may also include classroom observation, conducted either by the Chair or a representative from the Centre for Learning and Teaching with reasonable advance notice.

WORK ASSIGNMENT

To teach one section of CRWR 2002.03, Introduction to Creative Writing in the winter term of the 2018-19 academic year. The teaching schedule is Tuesday/Thursday 10:05-11:25. This is a large class that explores the techniques and practices of various literary genres including poetry, fiction, narrative non-fiction, playwriting, and writing for children. CRWR 2002.03 is a core course for students planning on completing a combined major or honours program in creative writing. The part-time academic will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the class, including the evaluation of student work. The part-time academic should also be available for two hours per week for consultation with students. The part-time academic reports to the Chair of the Department.
