POSITION:  Laboratory Instructors (Demonstrators)

WORK ASSIGNMENT:  PHYT 5104 Cardiorespiratory Physiotherapy and Health Promotion (September – December 2018)

DESCRIPTION OF WORK:  This position involves working with students in their first semester in the MScPT program. The laboratory instructor will assist the course professor by teaching physical assessment and treatment techniques related to care for people with cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases. The instructor will contribute to activities designed to develop students' clinical problem solving and documentation skills. They will receive outlines of the objectives and teaching activities in advance of each lab and be expected to come prepared to be a helpful mentor to students. A short consultation time will proceed the lab to ensure mutual understanding of lab activities between the course manager and all the lab instructors.  The laboratory instructor should be available to be an examiner in mid-term and final practical exams.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:  Candidates must be licensed Physiotherapists.  A Master's degree is preferred along with strong clinical expertise in the cardiorespiratory physiotherapy. Previous experience in both respiratory and cardiac practice areas is a preference.

WORK ASSIGNMENT: Laboratory Instructor: PHYT 5460 Advanced Exercise Physiology (September – December 2018)

DESCRIPTION OF WORK: The laboratory instructor will assist the course professor by teaching in the laboratory component of this module for Year I MScPT students. The laboratory instructor will act as an examiner in the final practical exam at the end of the semester. Laboratory instructors will also set-up for and clean-up after labs. Some additional hours may be required for preparation time and limited meeting time with the professor.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: Candidates must be licensed physiotherapists or kinesiologists with a strong background in exercise physiology and exercise testing. A Master's degree and teaching experience is preferred. Previous experience in exercise testing and prescription for individuals with chronic diseases and acute injuries is an asset.

WORK ASSIGNMENT:  PHYT 6107 Neurological Physiotherapy Practice (September – December 2018).

DESCRIPTION OF WORK:  The laboratory instructor/demonstrator will assist the course professor by teaching MScPT students practical skills, techniques, and intervention strategies for the appropriate management of patients with neurological dysfunction. The laboratory instructor will prepare the space; coordinate the equipment and the volunteers necessary to conduct the laboratories and/or practical examinations. The laboratory instructor will evaluate student performance during in-class practical assignments, during the mid-term and final practical exams and throughout the course. The laboratory instructor will contribute to preparation and evaluation of Interprofessional health education assignments. Some additional hours may be required for preparation time and limited meeting time with the professor.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:  Candidates must be licensed Physiotherapists with strong theoretical knowledge and a minimum of two years working experience that includes clinical neurotherapeutics. Evidence of professional development in adult and paediatric neurotherapeutics is preferred.  A Master's degree is preferred and previous teaching experience will be considered an asset.
