Position:  Sessional Instructor

OCCU 5050.03:  Public Dialogue on Occupations and Enablement

Summer Term 2018 (May June) 7 weeks

Department:   School of Occupational Therapy

Pay rate: In accordance with CUPE agreement

Work Assignment:  The sessional instructor will be responsible for the distance education delivery of OCCU 5050.03:  Public Dialogue on Occupations and Enablement.  This course is focused on knowledge transfer and knowledge translation. The instructor would be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the class, including course preparation for distance delivery, lectures, test preparation and evaluation of students. In addition, the instructor should be available on-line for consultation with students.

This course focuses on knowledge translation which connects knowledge and action through communication and engagement strategies. The goal of this course is the preparation of knowledge translation strategies and products. It can be based on students’ expertise developed through previous or concurrent assignments, projects completed in graduate studies, or through experiences developed in professional or business life.  Students will develop a knowledge translation portfolio of materials for public presentation to stimulate public dialogue on a topic of interest. By the end of this course students will develop graduate level competencies in identifying relevant audiences then tailoring messages and products to that audience by critically reflecting on knowledge translation theories and frameworks then applying them to a  topic of professional or public interest in order to improve knowledge transfer.

Requirements of position: Masters Degree is essential with emphasis on research, knowledge transfer, implementation science. PhD is preferred. Previous teaching with graduate students, and web-based distance education technology preferred.  Experience in knowledge translation related to occupation, participation and/or inclusion or health is an asset.
