Cafe Scientifique ‑ Personalized Medicine in Psychiatry: Challenges and Opportunities

Personalized medicine strives to tailor treatments to a person’s unique traits. The advent of powerful genetic and molecular techniques offers the unprecedented opportunity to identify specific features of an individual that can be used to guide diagnosis and treatment. This clinical research often depends on the use of large electronic databases for patient health records to identify disease markers. Personal health information must therefore be used ethically to ensure the protection and fair treatment of individuals. The panelists will describe the promises and limitations of personalized medicine for psychiatry, particularly in the diagnosis and treatment of depression.​
