Graduate Research Assistant

Position begins in September 2017

Research Project: Professional role identity change to accommodate medical assistance in dying: A qualitative analysis of four professions in Nova Scotia

Project information: The objectives of this research are: 1. To understand changes in the professional roles and identity of physicians, nurses, pharmacists and healthcare administrators in Nova Scotia after the practice of medical assistance in dying (MAID) became legal in Canada in 2016 and 2. To develop preliminary practice models of MAID to understand the processes by which it takes place.

Terms of Employment: $23 per hour (includes benefits); approximately 200 hours.

Tasks and Responsibilities: The Graduate Research Assistant's (RA) work will include:

  • Assisting with ethics application preparation and submission
  • Conducting and analyzing interviews
  • Participating in writing an article for publication
  • Other duties as required

    Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Experience conducting in-person and/or telephone interviews  
  • Experience qualitatively analyzing interviews or text
  • Ability to work independently
  • Proven time management, technological, communication and writing skills
  • Master's degree (or in progress)

    Desired Skills
  • Experience transcribing interviews (preferably with Google Docs)
  • Interest in and/or experience with NVivo® or other qualitative analysis software
  • Experience preparing manuscripts for publication
  • Interest and/or experience in health care
