Dalhousie ESL Programs — Fall 2017 Advanced English Courses (Non-credit) 

Dalhousie ESL Programs offers several non-credit courses designed to help Dalhousie undergraduate and graduate students improve their academic English skills. Many of these courses are open to students studying in Halifax-based universities as well.

Writing for Graduate Students

Mondays, Sept 18-Oct 30, 2017

4:30-6:30 (no class on Oct 09, Thanksgiving Day)

Through interactive activities and exercises, lab time and instructor feedback, you will develop your academic writing skills. The course will be capped at 15 students. Undergraduate students and students from other universities will be admitted with permission from the instructor. Tuition fee: $100. Register Now

Oral Communication

Thursdays, Sept 19-Oct 24, 2017

4:30-6:30

In this 12-hour non-credit course you will focus on improving your speaking skills for a variety of formal and informal contexts, both on campus and off campus. You will improve your fluency, spoken grammar and vocabulary, and practice strategies to improve communication in your daily life. Prerequisite for this course is minimum IELTS 6.5, CEFR C1, CLB 8 or full admission to a Halifax university at the undergraduate or graduate level. Tuition fee: $100. Register Now

Speaking and Pronunciation for Graduate Students

Wednesdays, Sept 20-Oct 25, 2017

4:30-6:30

The course will include elements of pronunciation at the word, phrase and sentence level. Other topics covered will include the skills of speaking about research, presenting and debating. The course will be capped at 15 students. Undergraduate students and students from other universities will be admitted with permission from the instructor. Tuition fee: $100. Register Now

Advanced Grammar

Thursdays, Sept 21-Oct 26, 2017

4:30-6:30

In this 12-hour non-credit course you will review and expand your knowledge of English grammar. Topics will include the grammar points at the word and sentence level that are most commonly misused by advanced learners of English. Class time will include interactive activities and exercises, lab time and instructor feedback. The course will be capped at 15 students. Prerequisite for this course is minimum IELTS 6.5, CEFR C1, CLB 8 or full admission to a Halifax university at the undergraduate or graduate level. Tuition fee: $100. Register Now

Three-Minute Thesis (3MT) Preparation Course 
Thursdays, Oct. 12, 19 & 26

4:30-6:30

This course will help graduate students prepare for the Three-Minute Thesis (3MT) academic communication competition. You will work on improving the accuracy of your grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation, developing fluency, and improving your overall presentation skills. Tuition fee: Free for Dalhousie students. Register Now
