Free ESL Workshop Series

Posted by Dalhousie ESL Programs on September 7, 2017 in General Announcements

Throughout the academic year, Dalhousie ESL offers a series of free workshops to help students review and expand their knowledge of the English language. All Dalhousie students are invited to drop in for a different topic each week to develop speaking and listening skills for a variety of contexts and improve their academic writing through a focus on grammar.

Workshops are held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30-6:30, September 12-November 23, in Mona Campbell Room 2110.

The Mechanics of Writing (Tuesdays 4:30-6:30)

The Tuesday workshop series called The Mechanics of Writing focuses on reviewing the building blocks of grammar to improve a student's writing on exams, assignments, and academic papers, and to help make the most out of other academic support on campus such as the Study Skills workshops, the Writing Centre, and writing classes. Each workshop is self-contained, so students can come to just a few, or come every Tuesday. The workshops will include explanation of rules and theory, as well as ample time for writing feedback by a qualified and experienced ESL instructor.

Focus on Communication (Thursdays 4:30-6:30)

The Thursday workshop series focuses on strategies and resources for successful communication in a variety of common contexts. The workshops will include discussion of theory as well as lots of practice time with a qualified and experienced ESL instructor.
