POSITION: Part-time Academic

DEPARTMENT/LOCATION: Biology / Life Sciences Centre

PAY RATE: In accordance with CUPE Collective Agreement

WORK ASSIGNMENT: The part-time academic will be responsible for teaching the course BIOL / MARI 4809.03, “Special Topics: Making an Impact – Communication Skills for Biologists”. The course will be offered in the Summer session, May 29 – June 13, 2017, Monday to Friday, approx. 0900-1700.
Responsibilities include all aspects of teaching and administering the course, including lectures, field trips, labs, assignment preparation, and evaluation of assignments. The part-time academic should expect to spend considerable time before and after the official course dates in preparation for the course and marking assignments.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: An academic background in both science and mass communications, a relevant graduate degree, and relevant work experience and/or teaching experience. Preference will be given to candidates with previous university teaching experience in science communication and professional expertise in communicating science to audiences outside of academia.
