POSITION: Part-time Academic

DEPARTMENT/LOCATION: School for Resource and Environmental Studies (SRES)

RATE OF PAY: According to the CUPE Agreement

WORK ASSIGNMENT: The Sessional Instructor will teach Resource and Environmental Problem-Solving I: The Community as a Living Laboratory (MGMT 3701) during the 2016-17 fall term. The calendar entry is as follows: “This course introduces students to research, concepts and methods for analyzing community sustainability across a spectrum of perspectives. In this course, the Halifax community serves as a living laboratory for identifying, evaluating and assessing indicators of progress toward greater environmental, social and economic sustainability. Working in groups, students apply problem-solving models to case studies using qualitative and quantitative research methods to help community-based organizations grapple with real world problems. A variety of tools may be used including systems analysis, environmental audits, field surveys, questionnaires, interviews, and statistical analysis. Students then draw conclusions and make recommendations for improvements on the bas! is of their analysis.”

The course is scheduled for 3 hours per week to be held on Mondays and Wednesdays, 4:00-5:30 pm, September 7th through December 6th, 2016.

REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION: PhD and/or thesis-based Masters with equivalent experience in related discipline. Candidates should have an aptitude for and experience in mentoring undergraduate students in collaborative research in the broader community. They must be reliable, energetic, and enthusiastic about the position and about coaching groups of 3rd year students to conduct applied, problem-solving research, many for their first time. Skills in OWL/Brightspace would be an asset.
