INSTRUCTOR POSITION – 36 MONTH LIMITED TERM
DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS AND ATMOSPHERIC SCIENCE
 
The Department of Physics and Atmospheric Science at Dalhousie University invites applications for a 3-year Instructor position commencing July 1, 2014.
 
The primary responsibilities of the successful candidate will be to organize and coordinate the laboratory sections associated with undergraduate Physics courses (Fall, Winter, and Summer), as well as full teaching responsibilities for the summer course. The successful candidate will work hand in hand with the instructor for the alternate first year lab (PHYC 1300).
 
Duties include teaching and laboratory duties, designing and preparing laboratory experiments primarily for Physics 1190 and 1290 labs (or their equivalents; taught Fall, Winter and Summer terms) - this may include writing instruction manuals, supervising TAs, collating lab marks and arranging in-term tests, help sessions and make-up labs; assisting faculty with preparation and set up of class demonstrations; preparing and giving lectures, invigilation, marking, developing assignments and exams, etc. The instructor may be asked to teach in the absence of the primary teaching professor.
 
Additional responsibilities include assisting the electronics technician with the supervision of the Physics computer lab, lab operation, software and hardware and coordinating purchases of undergraduate lab equipment for both labs and lecture demonstrations, community outreach initiatives and participation in departmental and faculty activities. Other duties as required.
 
Applicants should have an advanced degree in Physics and some experience teaching in a university setting. Good computer skills are necessary. The candidate is expected to be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as well as data entry and file maintenance.
