Res Life Staff Training ‑ Seeking Diversity Presenters

Posted by Residence Life on July 26, 2013 in General Announcements

The Residence Life team is looking for presenters to participate in our Residence Life student staff training in August. We are seeking campus partners who would like to present on a topic related to diversity, social justice, and inclusion. We are hoping for a variety of topics so the student staff can choose to attend one of several options centered on a specific topic, such as:

-    Including International Students;
-    Student Religion and Spirituality;
-    LGBTQ Positive Space and Ally Training;
-    Exploring Race;
-    Campus Accessibility, etc.

Please contact us if you or another representative from your department is available to offer a presentation on any of the above topics (or you can propose another related topic). The session are scheduled to be 1 hour in length (no more than 40 minutes of content with 20 minutes for questions/discussion), on Monday August 26th from 2:45 – 3:45pm in the Rowe Management Building.

If you are available and interested in presenting, we ask that you submit a brief proposal (500 words or less) that includes the following:
-    Presentation title
-    Presentation outline
-    Intended goals or outcomes
-    Presenter name(s) and titles/departments

Proposals can be emailed to lyndsay.anderson@dal.ca by 4:00pm on Friday August 2nd, and you will be contacted within one week with further details on your presentation.

Just for your information, the students you will be working with are both returning and new Residence Assistants (RAs) and Cluster Leaders (CLs). There will be about 25 students per presentation. They will be at varying levels of experience with the topic, but they will have attended an introductory diversity training session before the presentations.

Our intention for these presentations is to promote learning and discussion about a specific topic, to allow the staff to meet a resource person on our campus (that’s you!), and to allow them to ask questions and gain insight from others in the room.

Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 494-1485 or lyndsay.anderson@dal.ca.
