Exploring treaties and treaty relationships: Mi'kmaq History Month 2021 poster

- October 1, 2021

Every year, the Mi'kmaq History Month Committee — a group composed of members of The Confederacy of Mainland Mi’kmaq, representatives of the Mi’kmaq Grand Council, Nova Scotia Mi’kmaw communities and organizations, as well as the federal and provincial governments — creates a poster to help educate about an important topic in Mi'kmaq history.

For the 2021 poster, the committee centred its efforts on treaties and treaty relationships. Learn more about the the chain of treaties signed between the Mi'kmaq and British crown, the importance of Mi'maw oral history to treaty rights today, and about the role of ceremony and consensus in treaty making.
