(Halifax, N.S.) - Dalhousie University presents our MUSCLE MLK Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, January 27, 2019.

 

Savanna Jordan, Track & Field

Second-year distance runner Savanna Jordan is this week’s MUSCLE MLK Female Athlete of the Week.

Savanna led the Tigers to a sixth-place team finish at the McGill Team Challenge in Montreal over the weekend.

She placed first in the 3000m event, clocking in at 9:47, to earning a fifth-place U SPORTS ranking.

Savanna also placed fifth in the 1500m event in a personal-best indoor time of 4:34.

A kinesiology student, Savanna is from Calgary, Alta.

Matthew Coolen, Track & Field

Fourth-year sprinter Matthew Coolen is this week’s MUSCLE MLK Male Athlete of the Week.

Matthew led the Tigers to a third-place team finish at the McGill Team Challenge in Montreal over the weekend.

He won the 60m dash in a personal-best time of 6.80, recording the fastest time by a U SPORTS athlete in the last two years in the event. Last year’s U SPORTS 60m champion, he is currently ranked first in the country.

Matthew also won the 60m hurdles, crossing the line in a time of 8.34, ranking him fourth in the country.

A native of Halifax, N.S, Matthew is an engineering student.
