(Halifax, N.S.) - Dalhousie University presents our G2 Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, March 12, 2017.

Sarah Myatt, Track and Field

Fifth-year runner Sarah Myatt is this week’s G2 Female Athlete of the Week.

Sarah led the Tigers to a 17th place finish at the U SPORTS championships in Alberta over the weekend.

She placed eighth in both the 600m and 1000m events and anchored the 4x800m relay team to a fifth-place finish.

An arts student, Sarah is from Fredericton, N.B.

There are co-winners for the men this week, Kashrell Lawrence (basketball) and Mike Van Der Poel (track and field)

Kashrell Lawrence, Basketball

Fifth-year forward Kashrell Lawrence is this week’s co-G2 Male Athlete of the Week.

Kashrell led the Tigers to a bronze medal finish at the U SPORTS Final 8 men’s basketball championship in Halifax.

In Thursday’s quarter-final game against Alberta, Kashrell recorded a double-double with 28 points and 10 rebounds and added four steals in the Tigers 67-65 win over the #4 seeded Golden Bears.

An AUS first-team all-star, he had another big game on Saturday with 16 points, eight rebounds and three steals in the Tigers 59-58 semifinal loss to the #1 seeded Ryerson.

He added nine points, four rebounds and three steals Sunday, leading the Tigers to the men’s basketball program’s first-ever national medal with 69-63 win over #3 seeded McGill.

The U SPORTS and AUS community service award winner, Kashrell was named to the championship all-star team.

A native of Brampton, O.N., Kashrell is a commerce student.

Mike Van Der Poel, Track and Field

Second-year sprinter Mike Van Der Poel is this week’s co-G2 Male Athlete of the Week.

Mike led the Tigers to a an 11th place team finish at the U SPORTS track and field championships in Alberta over the weekend.

He won a bronze medal in the 300m event, with a time of 34.10 seconds, setting a new Dalhousie record.

He also ran in in the Tigers 4x400m relay, leading them to a 10th place finish.

A native of Truro, N.S., Mike is from Truro, N.S.
