Katherine Webster, Swimming

Fifth-year swimmer Katherine Webster is this week’s G2 Female Athlete of the Week.

Katherine earned two bronze medals at the 2016 CIS Swimming Championships over the weekend.

She won her first medal of the weekend on the second day of the championship, placing third in the 400m freestyle. She posted a personal lifetime-best time of 4:22.69 in the event. She earned her second medal on the third and final day of competition with another personal best swim in the 800m freestyle event, touching in at 9:01.62.

Katherine continued to end her five-year career on a high note, swimming her best-ever times in the 200m butterfly and 400m IM. She was seventh in the 200m butterfly (2:21.70) and 11th in the 400m IM (5:02.28). She was also part of the sixth place 400m medley relay and eighth place 800m freestyle relay teams and helped lead the Tigers to a fifth place team finish at the CIS championships

Katherine is from Whitby, O.N., and is a science student.

Matt Coolen, Track and Field

First-year sprinter Matt Coolen is this week’s G2 Male Athlete of the Week.

Matt was named the AUS rookie of the year and track athlete of the year after a stellar performance at the AUS championships this past weekend.

In his first ever AUS championship, Matt won the 60m dash setting a new AUS record. He crossed the finish line in 6.82 seconds, beating the record previously set in 2001 by Saint Mary’s Jason Hilchie. He also won the 60m hurdles event, setting another AUS record. He clocked a time of 8.38 seconds beating the record Kevin O’Neill (Saint Mary’s) set in 2012. He also grabbed a silver medal as part of Dalhousie’s 4x200m relay team.

He was named the men’s AUS rookie of the year and the track athlete of the year for his efforts.

A native of Halifax, N.S., Matt is an engineering student.
