After failing to record a win last weekend, the women’s soccer team showed why they are the two-time defending AUS champions with a convincing 5-0 victory over the Saint Mary’s Huskies on Saturday. First-year midfielder Adelle Goodfellow tallied the first two goals of her career with the Tigers in the win. Bianca Jakisa continued her strong start to the 2013 season with a goal and now leads the AUS with three, already matching her goal total from last year. Victoria Parkinson and Daphne Wallace also added goals for the Tigers. Shannon Junor looked strong in net, recording a shutout with four saves.

The Tigers took on the Mount Allison Mounties on Sunday in Sackville, NB looking for their second win of the season. The Tigers came out strong but couldn’t seem to find the back of the net and it was tied at zero going into halftime. In the 64th minute, Kristy McGregor-Bales fired one past Mounties goalie Robin Bessemer to put the Tigers up 1-0. This proved to be the game-winning goal as the Tigers went on to beat the Mounties 1-0. Kristy McGregor-Bales earned the Dalhousie female G2 Athlete of the Week.

The Tigers will be back in action on Wednesday as they take on the StFX X-Women at Wickwire Field at 5:00pm.

The Tigers took on the first-place Saint Mary’s Huskies in men’s soccer action on Saturday and couldn’t seem to find their scoring touch losing 2-0. First-year Husky Thierno Diop headed one in during the 23rd minute to put Saint Mary’s up 1-0. The Tigers couldn’t seem to solve Huskies keeper Adam Miller as he made six saves. Tigers midfielder Bezick Evraire came close to tying the game in the 90th minute, but his shot rang off the crossbar. The Huskies added a late goal to seal the 2-0 victory.

On Sunday, the Tigers looked to rebound against the struggling Mount Allison Mounties. Nathan Rogers got the Tigers on the board early with a goal in the second minute, followed by another by Will Wright in the eleventh minute. Mounties midfielder Federico Mora added a goal in the 13th minute. Rookie Tigers keeper Tristan Leopold looked strong in his AUS debut, allowing only one goal for a 2-1 victory. His game-saving double save in the 85th minute helped him earn the Dalhousie male G2 Athlete of the Week.
