Four Dalhousie Agricultural Campus athletes have been named Academic All-Canadians by the Sport Information Resource Centre (SIRC) and the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA) for combined excellence in collegiate athletics and academics.

Dual athlete in soccer and badminton Chris Ross, (Harmony, N.S.) cross country athletes Paul Manning (Canning, N.S.) and Kevin Morin (Gatineau, Que.) and soccer athlete Leah Cook (Bridgewater, N.S.) have been named to the Atlantic Colleges Athletic Association’s All-Conference Team and achieved honors of 80 per cent or higher in their academic programs.

“The student-athletes who have achieved excellence in both athletics and academics are role models for the youth of today and destined to excel in their future careers,” says Debra Gassewitz, SIRC president and CEO. “SIRC is honoured to recognize these outstanding individuals as recipients of the SIRC-CCAA Academic All Canadian award.”

The SIRC-CCAA Academic All Canadian award is the CCAA’s most prestigious student-athlete honour, epitomizing both organizations’ commitment to academic success and athletic achievement. Honourees at Dalhousie’s Agricultural Campus must attain academic honours in addition to being named to their member conference All-Star Team, as well as finishing in the top third at their member conference cross-country running championship.

“To excel academically with an honors average or to be selected to an All-Conference Team is outstanding,” explained Dalhousie Agricultural Campus Director of Athletic Services Judy Smith. “When you are able to do both, [it] speaks volumes about the talent and dedication to succeed shown by our CCAA Academic All-Canadians. They are exceptional players, students and people. We are very proud of them and expect that they will continue to excel in both university and in life.”

The awards were presented during the Faculty’s annual Athletic Awards Banquet on Friday, March 22, 2013 in Jenkins Hall.
