The Tigers women’s hockey team heads to Antigonish, N.S. this weekend for the Subway AUS championships hosted by St. FX.
The conclusion of this year’s season was very close as teams battled for points and placements in the standings. Dalhousie finished their season tied with St. Thomas with 23 points, but due to their win/loss record the black and gold fell to fourth place behind the Tommies. The Saint Mary’s Huskies finished right behind Dal in fifth place, closely followed by Mount Allison in sixth place. Leading the standings are the X-Women with 48 points and second place Moncton with 34.
Dal will battle the loser of Thursday’s Mt. A-St. FX game on Friday at 3 p.m. On Saturday, the Tigers will face off against the winner of the Mt. A-St. FX game, also at 3 p.m. This season the black and gold lost four times to the X-Women and won only one of four games against the Mounties.
“We competed as a top-three team all year,” says Tigers head coach Lesley Jordan. “The league was very competitive; every game was in doubt as all seven teams were capable of winning against any opponent. I think all six teams enter the tournament believing they have the team to win and realistically anyone can win. It’s shaping up to be an exciting weekend of playoff hockey.”
