Scoring a hat trick

Hockey player Jayne Knowles has been selected as this week’s Dalhousie University female athlete of the week. The arts student from Newport, N.S. picked up a hat trick in a 9-0 win over Mount Allison on Saturday. She had eight shots on net and two of her three goals were deflections. She also played an important role in the Tigers' penalty kill.

Russell Christie has been selected as this week’s male athlete of the week. At the Dalhousie-hosted Super Saturday Track Meet, the runner won the 3000-metre event by more than one minute. He ran alone from the start and lapped the entire field. A pharmacy student from Petrolia, Ont., he finished seven seconds ahead of his previous best time and qualified for the CIS Championship in March.
