Dalhousie researchers, part of the Centre for Marine Environmental Prediction (CMEP), held an open house on Sept. 24 in Lunenburg to explain a five-year research project to collect data from the ocean for forecasting purposes. Boat tours took groups of students and residents out to see the meteorological instruments, and booths on the dock explained the science beneath the waves. Some 500 school children attended the day-long event, getting a first-hand look at ocean research. John Cullen, Killam Chair in Ocean Studies at Dal and co-investigator of CMEP, explains the project and the support it received from the Lunenburg community.
