Tigers welcome new recruits

Dalhousie Tigers Swimming Coach David Fry is pleased to announce the recruiting class for the upcoming 2007-08 season.

The women's swim team will be welcoming three leading recruits, all with experience at the national level.

• Chantelle Percival of Halifax has won several provincial and regional titles in breaststroke and individual medley.
• A native of Bedford, Lauren Brent was a member of the Nova Scotia Canada Games squad in 2005.
• Michelle Easton of London, Ont. has competed up to the Eastern Canadian Championship level in her specialty of backstroke.

The men's squad will have at least six very substantial additions to the Tiger team.

• Guido Iannucci of Aurora, Ont. is a 2008 Olympic trials qualifier in the 50 freestyle.
• Adam Salsman of Truro has won many provincial titles and was a leading member of Nova Scotia's 2005 Canada Games team.
• Robin Grant of Ottawa has seen national experience in the 100, 200 and 400 freestyles at the Eastern Canadian Championship.
• Bryan Fumerton of Uxbridge, Ont. and Greg Hanlon of Halifax were finalists at the recent Canadian Age Group Nationals in the 200 backstroke.
• Dmitry Shulga of Halifax has won several provincial and regional titles in backstroke, butterfly and individual medley.

2007 AUS and CIS Men's Swim Coach of the Year and AUS Women's Swim Coach of the Year, David Fry recently returned from the Pan American Games in Brazil where he coached the Bermuda National Team to two national records and two semifinal finishes.

The Tigers finished off the 2006-07 season with AUS banners for both the men's and women's teams and captured a bronze medal at the CIS Men's Swimming Championship hosted by the Tigers.

In other Dalhousie Tigers news, Women's Basketball Coach Carolyn Savoy is also welcoming new recruits for the upcoming 2007-08 season. The Tigers will be looking to continue on the path from 2006-07 that included a second place finish in AUS
and an impressive fourth place finish at CIS nationals.

The Tigers will be adding three top quality students to the roster immediately with a red shirt joining the squad as well who will see playing action next season.

• Brianna Orr, a graduate of Halifax Grammar School has transferred to Dalhousie from the University of Calgary to complete an MBA. A kinesiology grad, Brianna is a good shooter and is expected to add leadership and experience to the Tiger team. 
• Jessica Puddister, a native of St. John's, NL, has enrolled in her first year of studies at Dalhousie and will contribute offensively with her excellent shooting ability. 
• Brooke Sullivan, sister of current basketball Tiger, Brittany, is an outstanding student-athlete who comes to Dalhousie on a four-year renewable academic scholarship. A smart perimeter player, Brooke is a welcome addition who is very athletic and can shoot the ball.
• Cailin Crosby has transferred from Acadia University where she played for two seasons and will sit out a year in order to compete for the Tigers in 2008-09. At 6'3, she will add height and strength to the Tigers inside game. 

"I'm very excited to be attending Dal this fall. I think that it was the right decision for me athletically and academically," says Ms. Crosby. "I'm looking forward to being a part of the Dal program and working with the coaching staff, established players and new recruits. I'm anticipating great things."
