Shane Gero's favourite moment at Dalhousie didn't happen in a classroom; in fact, it didn't happen on campus at all. While conducting underwater research, he found himself face-to-face with a sperm whale mother and baby. An award-winning marine biologist, Shane not only studies whales and dolphins, but is adding to the world's knowledge through cutting-edge research. "Dalhousie provided me with hands-on opportunities to work with whales and dolphins that I wouldn't get anywhere else," he says, adding that his research has taken him from just off the coast of Nova Scotia, to the Sargasso Sea (off the coast of North Carolina), and to Dominica in the West Indies.
