Geoff Harris (Track and Field) and Ellen Wright (Hockey) were named Dalhousie Male and Female Rookies of the Year. Geoff won a gold medal at the CIS Track and Field Championships in the 600M and as was part of the bronze medal winning 4x800M relay team. Lesley Jordan (Women's Hockey) was named Dalhousie Coach of the Year. Lesley coached the Tigers to a third place finish in the tight AUS conference and, after defeating St. Mary's in the AUS semi-finals, competed at the CIS Championship. Dalhousie UniversityÕs Department of Athletics and Recreational Services recognized elite athletes, dedicated coaches and tireless volunteers at the 52nd Annual Black and Gold Athletic Awards Banquet on March 30. The highlight awards given to DalÕs outstanding male and female athletes of the year were given to Kiera Aitken, Janice Ashworth and Jeff Weiler. Aitken, a CIS silver medallist in the 50-metre backstroke and six-event winner at the AUS championship, shared top honours with Ashworth who won her third-consecutive CIS silver medal in cross country earlier this season. Weiler gets the menÕs nod for the second consecutive year after leading the volleyball Tigers to a fourth-place finish at the CIS championship where he was a multi-event winner in such categories as CIS Libero of the Year, the student-athlete community service award winner and named to second all-Canadian team and the championship all-star team.
