Tsinghua University Agreement

Dalhousie UniversityÕs College of Continuing Education and The School of Continuing Education of Tsinghua University in Beijing signed an agreement today to deliver a 12-day study-abroad program for Canadian businesses hoping to break into the fast-growing Chinese market.

The objective of the program is to provide senior managers from the business and financial communities in Canada with an overview of the market and business practices and cultural differences in working successfully in China. The program will be delivered at the campus of Tsinghua University in Beijing July 3rd to July 14th, and led by faculty from Tsinghua and Chinese business leaders from the multinational business community.
 
President Tom Traves signed the agreement on behalf of DalhousieÕs College of Continuing Education. Also present were Andy Cochrane, Dean of the Dalhousie College of Continuing Education and Mary Meidell, Program Director responsible for international training for the college. Present on behalf of Tsinghua were Professor Feiyu Kang, Deputy Dean of School of Continuing Education (SCE), Professor Hua Lin, Director of Art Center of SCE, Dr. Yu Kun Zhang, Associate Professor & Vice Director of Tsinghua SCE-Syracuse University Collaborative and Professor Gilsun Song, Tsinghua University Research Centre.

ÒThis unique program will provide the ideal opportunity for Canadian companies to learn more about the Chinese market,” says Andy Cochrane, Dean of DalÕs College of Continuing Education. ÒThe agreement also builds on our earlier success in the area of international training, including Study in Canada programs developed for the governments of India and China, and a customized program on seaway and flight lock operations we developed in partnership with the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corp. for Chinese engineers working on that countryÕs Three Gorges Dam project.”
 
The School of Continuing Education of Tsinghua University (www.sce.tsinghua.edu.cn) is the administrative department in charge of Continuing Education, Distance Education and Adult Diploma Education. It is the first school of continuing education approved by the State Education Commission (Ministry of Education), and its creation symbolized the standardization of continuing education in China. Often referred to as the MIT of China, Tsinghua University and its School of Continuing Education has struck collaborative agreements with universities around the world including, most recently, the University of Heidelburg in Germany.
