Higher Security for Faculty and Staff Directory

- June 15, 2005

In order to prevent spamming organizations from "harvesting" Dalhousie email addresses, University Computing and Information Services (UCIS) has placed an additional security level on the university LDAP directory. This will require anyone using the directory off-campus to login as a Dalhousie user.

This change will be invisible to anyone logging on from the Dalhousie campus, but may affect those trying to send email from home, unless they are using MY.DAL (my.dal.ca) to access their email.

Effective Thursday, June 16, 2005, any Dalhousie members trying to use an email program (Eudora, Outlook, Thunderbird) to access the staff directory by email from home, will have to make small setting changes to their email program.

Instructions can be found at:
http://ucis.dal.ca/services/ldap/index.html

If you use MY.DAL for all email from home you will not be affected by these changes.
