Who is Imhotep?

Imhotep, polymath and High PriestImhotep lived during the reign of King Djoser (2630-2611BC) and was the architect of the step pyramid at Saqquara, the first pyramid ever built in Egypt.  Born a commoner, he quickly rose through the ranks of the temple and court to become a vizier and high priest.  As a member of the Pharaoh’s court he was an architect, scribe, priest and physician.  He pioneered the building of pyramids and was later deified.

His legacy is found in the past achievement and present potential of generations of people of African heritage.

Imhotep's Legacy Academy reminds us to continue that legacy and motivate the African Nova Scotian youth of today to become successful scientists, mathematicians and engineers of tomorrow.
