David Ernest Brown is a native Nova Scotian born and raised in Halifax, graduating from Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Sciences (Honours) degree in Geology in 1979.  He joined the petroleum industry working first with Amoco in Calgary, a local consulting firm in Halifax, and later for nine years as an explorationist with Mobil Oil Canada in Calgary and Toronto focusing on offshore eastern Canada and arctic frontier basins.  Since 1990, David has been employed with the Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Board in Halifax and is currently Senior Advisor – Geology with responsibilities for conducting research on specific geological subjects, hydrocarbon resource assessment, monitoring and advising on the geological aspects of all offshore exploration and development activities, and scientific liaison with other government, academic and regulatory agencies.  David has authored, edited and contributed to a number of technical papers and publications on the geology of conjugate margins basins and has a keen interest in Atlantic margin pre-rift and early syn-rift basin development and petroleum systems.  With his colleague Grant Wach, he organized and co-chaired the first of the Conjugate Margins Conferences and co-chair in Halifax in 2008. He is a member of several geological societies including the AAPG, CSPG, GAC, PESGB, SPE and AGS, and currently serves as a delegate for the Canada Section of the AAPG HoD.
