Competitions
The Basin and Reservoir Lab encourages students to put their geoscience and engineering skills to the test through international university competitions.
These challenges give students the chance to work with industry-grade datasets, collaborate across disciplines, and present their findings to panels of industry experts, all while competing for scholarship funding and recognition on the global stage.
Our students have participated in the following competitions:
AAPG's annual international basin evaluation competition, in which small teams of geoscience students analyze a full petroleum geological dataset, 2D and 3D seismic, well logs, and more to assess oil and gas exploration prospects. The Canadian regional competition is held each March in Calgary, with winning teams advancing to the international finals.
Hosted by the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE) with support from Shell, ExxonMobil, Total, and Repsol, this competition promotes cross-disciplinary collaboration between geoscience and petroleum engineering students. Multi-disciplinary teams analyze a shared dataset to propose a full field development plan, presenting their results to an expert jury at the EAGE Conference & Exhibition.
