What inspired you to choose your field of study?
From a young age I always knew I wanted to work in healthcare. I was specifically drawn to pharmacy due to the ever-changing scope of practice and unique role pharmacists play within the healthcare system. Pharmacists are the most accessible healthcare provider and are often the first point of contact for patients in our challenged healthcare system. I am passionate about helping others, and being a pharmacist will allow me to make a direct, meaningful impact on patient care every single day.
What was a moment at Dal that you’ll never forget?
A moment at Dal I will never forget was the white coat/welcome ceremony held by the College of Pharmacy for the incoming class. It was a surreal and exciting milestone that recognized all the hard work that got me to that point. The ceremony beautifully symbolized a fresh beginning, marking the moment we were formally welcomed into the profession of pharmacy and sparking so much excitement for the lifelong friendships and memories I would make along the way.
Who supported you along the way and how?
My parents, sisters, partner, and friends have massively supported me throughout this journey. I am very grateful to all of them for always supporting and uplifting me during my hardest moments, and celebrating all of the small wins!
Is there an academic or non-academic (eg: on-campus clubs, sports, employment) experience, project, or hands-on learning opportunity that really impacted you?
My clinical rotations were incredibly impactful. Transitioning out of the classroom and into the real world allowed me the opportunity to apply my knowledge and feel like I was not only growing as a practitioner, but also making a real difference in patients’ lives. Collaborating with multidisciplinary healthcare teams taught me the true value of clinical pharmacy and solidified my passion for hospital-based practice.
What motivated your decision to complete a dual degree?
When I first came to Dalhousie, my motivation was to build a strong scientific foundation that would help me work toward my goal of training for a career in healthcare, which is why I chose the Medical Sciences pathway. My passion for patient care led me to later transition into the PharmD program, and my first two years of university education prepared me for what was to come. Through the foundational science coursework I completed in my first two years of Medical Sciences, I earned enough credits to seamlessly fulfill the requirements for a Bachelor of Science alongside my Doctor of Pharmacy degree. Graduating with both a BSc and a PharmD feels like a perfect close to my journey at Dalhousie.
Did you receive a scholarship, bursary or other award as a Dal student? If so, how did that impact your Dal experience and what did that support mean to you?
I was very fortunate to receive scholarships, bursaries, and academic awards during my time at Dal, and it made a world of difference. Having financial support took a huge weight off my shoulders and allowed me to focus entirely on my education and training. I was especially honoured to receive the 2025 Dale Daley Pharmacy Award for Excellence, which felt like a wonderful validation of all the hard work poured into my Doctor of Pharmacy degree.
What does graduating mean to you?
Graduating for me means a lot! When I graduated high school in 2020, it was the peak of the pandemic, so I never got to walk across the stage to receive my diploma. Now, 6 years later, walking across the stage and looking out at my family, friends, and classmates was a very surreal, full-circle moment.
What is next for you?
This June I will begin a PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program at Nova Scotia Health. I am incredibly grateful and excited for this opportunity and all the growth it will bring. It would not have been possible without all the support and mentorship I received from the College of Pharmacy over the past four years. I will always be grateful that I completed my Doctor of Pharmacy at Dalhousie and will cherish the relationships I have made!
